Twenty-Second Week Of Ordinary Time

Changing Times

The change of Season was abrupt with a long awaited downpour just as September arrives. It marks the RETURN – getting back to normal after the summer break- starting the new school term, preparing maybe for Further Education and a range of new projects, meetings and opportunities . Do involve yourself with new energy and enthusiasm.

The Season Of Creation

This runs from September 1st to the feast of St Francis of Assisi on October 4th. You can read a Statement from Bishop John Arnold on the environment and care for our common home at CBCEW (click)It also marks the 10th anniversary of the Letter of Pope Francis with its teaching on the environment -Laudato Si. The Presentation Of The Lord

Forty Days after Christmas we celebrate the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple by Mary and Joseph – part of a Jewish ritual in thanksgiving for the birth of a child. It was the occasion of the family meeting Simeon and Anna and the utterance “a light to enlighten the Gentiles”. Jesus is the light for the world. This is recognised with the blessing of candles and a procession entering the Temple.

For Missal users the Mass texts may be found with the feasts of the Lord in the pages towards the back.

Fourth Sunday of Advent

Are we there yet ? Not quite -but nearly. Two expectant Mothers meet and share their joy at what is soon to happen. One of the unborn is kicking in the womb waiting to come into the light. The Catholic Children’s Society

By tradition your gifts at the crib are for the Crisis Fund for A&B which the Society has for families in difficulty.

Jubilee Year – Pilgrims of Hope

Pope Francis has decided that 2025 will be a year of Jubilee – something which happens every 25 years – with the theme “Pilgrims of Hope”. The Jubilee will offer people across our global family of faith an important opportunity to re-establish a proper relationship with God, with one another, and with all of creation. In order for everyone to share in the celebration of the Holy Year, the following diocesan churches have been designated as special places of pilgrimage, where Holy Year Indulgences may be gained: Read more here.

To All Parishioners,

May I wish you joy at the birth of Jesus and peace for you and yours.

Fifth Week of Easter

The Season is rushing by, and Thursday week (May 9th) will be Ascension Thursday, a Holyday of Obligation. We have another image used by Jesus, one understood by the Chosen People, and one we can easily grasp. It reminds us to find strength by adhering to Jesus, like a branch attached to its stem. Every now and then it is good to ask ourselves how we are developing our understanding of the Faith and what it means for our sense of membership. There is a regular reminder as we pray the Eucharistic Prayer with parts  such as “that we may become on body one spirit in Christ”, in union of mind and heart with Pope Francis and our shepherd, Bishop Richard.

‘Intricately Woven By The Lord’ – from the Bishops of England & Wales

A Pastoral reflection on gender by the Bishops. With all the media comments and hype, a calm informative document to inform the discussions in which we may be involved, to read please click here.

St George Patron of England

St George appeared to have received very little publicity this week.

Leader, now on earth no longer
Soldier of the eternal King
Victor in the fight for heaven
We thy loving praise sing

Great Saint George our patron
Help us, in the conflict be thou nigh,
Help us in that daily battle,
Where each one must live or die.
