Holy Week

DURING HOLY WEEK WE FOLLOW CHRIST FROM HIS TRIUMPHANT ENTRANCE INTO JERSUSALEM TO THE FOOT OF THE CROSS AS SORROWFUL BYSTANDERS TO THE PASSION ,BEFORE ROLLING BACK THE STONE OF THE EMPTY TOMB AND THE JOY OF THE RESURRECTION

 

THIS IS OUR SPECIAL WEEK WHEN WE REFLECT ON THE MEANING OF THE EVENTS OF OUR SALVATION AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CROSS WE SEE OR WEAR .

1 PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION 10AM. We gather in the Hall for the blessing and distribution of Palms and the Procession reminding us of the entrance of Jesus into the City of Jerusalem. As Mass commences the focus moves to the Passion of St Luke

2 MASSES OF HOLY WEEK. MONDAY & TUESDAY 10AM AND ON WEDNESDAY – KNOWN AS SPY ( BETRAYAL ) WEDNESDAY – MASS AT 10AM

3 THE CHRISM MASS . In Arundel Cathedral at 6pm on Wednesday, the Bishop with the Priests of the Diocese , assemble for the Blessing of the Holy Oils to be used in the administration of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Order of Priesthood and the Anointing of the Sick.

THE TRIDUUM OR THREE DAYS.

HOLY (MAUNDY) THURSDAY.

7.30PM MASS OF THE LORD’S SUPPER WITH THE WASHING OF FEET WITH WATCHING AT THE ALTAR OF REPOSE ( RECALLING JESUS WITH THE APOSTLES IN THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE ) CLOSING 10PM

Good Friday

10AM WAY OF THE CROSS With Meditations by St John Henry Newman

3PM THE LITURGY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD

This is a Day of Fasting &Abstinence . There is a Retiring Collection at both Liturgies for the Holy Places
