The first of 3 meetings between this Wednesday and the end of February takes place this Wednesday Evening at 7.30pm in our Hall .Everyone is invited, above all yourself, so please make every effort to come along and participate. Do bring a pen ! Don’t worry you do not have to be an expert.

Advent Week 2

Prepare the way of the Lord. A reminder to review your living as a follower of Christ and celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation with individual Confession. Next Saturday there will be the opportunity from 11 am to 12 Noon in Church. Not to be missed!

Advent Carol Service

Next Sunday 12th December. Combined Singers from St Mary’s and St Thomas More’s lead an Advent Service of Carols and Readings in preparation for the Feast ahead. 6pm in St Mary’s, Surrenden Road. Mulled wine and mince pies in the hall afterwards Collection for Mary’s Meals.

Honouring Sunday

Attentive to the experiences of the last year the Bishops of our Country have written to us with encouragement to respond to the great Gift of the Eucharist and our participation in it on Sundays. It is “ the very heartbeat of the Church and of our personal life of faith “ “We are gathered together and sent out, we pray and are fed ,we worship and we adore ,these are intrinsic to our lives as those baptised into Christ “ Do read the full statement and reflect on its guidance.

The Synodal Process

This process is under way in the Diocese with an invitation to everyone to participate .There is information on the red noticeboard in the entrance, at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England Wales, and our local diocesan website. As announced there will be a Meeting on Wednesday 8th December at 7.30pm in our hall open to everyone.

Honouring Sunday

The Bishops of England and Wales have addressed us about the importance of Sunday, the Lord’s Day.

During the pandemic, public worship was suspended for a time and there have been restrictions on parish life. As a result, people have been exploring other ways to practice their faith including Spiritual Communion via live streaming.

As people begin returning to more regular patterns of parish life and following the first face to face meeting of the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales in Leeds, the bishops have issued the following statement about the importance of honouring Sunday…

Youth Sunday 2021

Pope Francis addresses Young People with the theme “ Stand up. I appoint you as witnesses of what you have seen“ Acts 26. 16. Resources can be found on the website of our diocese. Celebrating the role and significance of young people in the life and mission of the Church . In prayer we pray for them their teachers, parents and all who work in youth ministry.

The Fifth World Day of the Poor

Pope Francis has sent a message to all of us in which he quotes “The poor you will have with you always “ Mark 14:7 and says Jesus not only sides with the poor; he also shares their lot. And refers to Fr Damian of Molokai as an example. It is a summons not to miss the opportunity to do good.” It is important to understand how they feel, what they are experiencing and what their hearts desire.

The Second Collection

The Second Collection is the annual one for the Retired Priests of the Diocese who have served in the Parishes of A&B. You may find it easier to make your donation via this method suggested in the ebulletin.

Between 31st October and the 12th November the United Climate Change Conference will take place in Glasgow . Right on cue torrential flooding has caused damage to roads, railways and bridges en route to Scotland.

There is much to read and digest as the Conference begins.

This Sunday the Holyday of All Saints will be celebrated at our Sunday 10am Mass (Holydays occurring on a Monday or Saturday are transferred in the UK to the nearest Sunday ) we remember the Women and Men who have been loyal and faithful followers of Jesus Christ.

Commemoration of the Faithful Departed

All Souls Day Tuesday 2nd November – an opportunity to remember in Prayer those “we have loved and lost awhile” Masses will be celebrated at 10am and & 7.30pm.

Next Sunday 7th November Priests from the Deanery will be at the Cemeteries in Brighton and Hove to bless the graves of the Faithful Departed from 2.30pm.

Deanery Station Mass

This Mass will take place with Bishop Richard at the Sacred Heart Norton Road Hove on Monday 8th November at 7pm for the repose of the souls of those who have died in the last year.

Growing Up Catholic

The Preparation for the Sacraments of The Eucharist and Reconciliation will commence. Stage 1 is to complete the Preparation begun with Year 5s, We were up to Session 4 of Reconciliation. Stage 2 will be to meet with Parents of Year 4 and 3 to present the requirements of the Programme.

Having been celebrating a number of Baptisms recently there is a reminder to the parents of the responsibility they take on “In Confirmation they will receive the fullness of God’s Spirit, in Holy Communion they will share in the banquet of Christ’s sacrifice calling God their Father” From the Rite of Baptism “You will be the best of teachers”

Memorial Mass for Mary Berry RIP

Mary was a Parishioner for many years in STM .You will remember her arriving just a little late and taking a seat in the front row. A number of years ago she moved to Dean Wood in Woodingdean. It now appears she died sometime in June. Her niece who lives in France has arranged a Memorial Mass for Thursday 4th November at 11am in our Church .This will be preceded by the Burial of her Ashes with those of her husband John at the Downs. There will be just a few friends from London so it would be a kindness if you could come along for the Mass.

We support with our prayers missionaries and hospitals, schools, and vocations in countries where the Church is new, young or poor. MISSIO is the Pope’s charity for world mission and is vital for the growth of the Church.
